Trifles of Poetry

Marcus Aurelius learned modesty from Dad,
from his mother, simplicity and piety,
from great-grandfather, to prize education,
but from Rusticus, alas, to avoid trifles of poetry.

Carry the Calf

King Vahahran's wife was not impressed
when he slaughtered two asses with only one arrow;
he left her behind, but missed his love all his days,
so to win his respect she carried a cow!
She started when the cow was a newborn calf,
hauled it each day for years, then had the last laugh,
for when he found her, the cow, her shoulders bedecked,
she won love anew saying, "Practice makes perfect!"
